Cargill, Inc: Since 1891

In the late 1800’s Cargill, Inc. would barge coal up the Mississippi form Illinois to Minneapolis and in turn barge grain down the river to New Orleans.  In the process, various coal consignees were developed along the way.  One of those, established in 1891 as Cargill Coal is the precursor of our existing corporation.

Cargill Coal existed into the 1930’s when, as technology evolved from hand fired equipment to automatic, stoker, fired, Cargill Coal and Equipment emerged.  During this era Cargill began their relationship with Iron Fireman.  Incidentally, this was a relationship that would last until the mid 1980’s as Iron Fireman ceased their operations. 

Again, as society moved forward into the 1950’s and demands for central gas and oil heat plus air conditioning increased, Cargill Heating and Air Conditioning was christened.  Again, furnaces featured were manufactured by Iron Fireman.  Air conditioners were manufactured by several companies including Hastings.  Originally, all air conditioners were water cooled appliances.

The energy crisis of the 1970’s required another direction change.  With energy costs reaching unprecedented levels, new construction skidded. Conservation, maintenance and  customer service became the business focus.  Once geared up for service and maintenance it became apparent our customers and our business would be best served if we were, indeed, full service.

“Complete”, to us, meant the incorporation of plumbing into our list of available services.  With its addition in 1988, we became Cargill Plumbing and Heating.  Since then we have become licensed in both Wisconsin and Minnesota and have completed projects from Woodberry, MN to Guttenberg, IA and from Eyota, MN to Jefferson, WI
